Michelle wanted to know if we could stay out of the Austin bankruptcy file and pay our debts and keep the house. I wanted to try, too. We had worked too hard for too many years to just let it all go. We put our heads together. We needed to get more money — fast. We came up with several plans, none of them all that great. We were spinning our wheels, we thought, after awhile. Nothing would work. How we got in debt was one thing. We traveled a lot and it was very hard to keep up with book keeping. We lost track of what we were spending, versus what was coming in. We would borrow and borrow and never pay back. That couldn’t go on forever. Each time when we got back from being on tour we were just too exhausted to do anything. Unless you have been on the road you just don’t know. It can drain you. You spend your time racing to the next show, but then after you are still all hopped up and can’t just sit down and read the paper, like if you were working a 9 to 5 job. You ended up partying until 5 am, then crashing for awhile, then getting up and on the bus by 9am. You could sleep on the bus, but it wasn’t like getting a night’s sleep. So we got careless, too careless. That’s how we ended up filing.

I was watching the Los Angeles Angels play on the TV overhead when Bart sat down next to me at the bar. The bartender chatted with him for a while about the same old, same old. How are you? How was your week? She introduced him to me and then we chatted about the same old, same old. Eventually, we both had a few more drinks and Bart mentioned to me that he’d been married before. I asked about it and he said he was down in Mexico and watched some old play he couldn’t even understand in Spanish starring a donkey. Afterwards, he married the woman who owned the donkey. He got so drunk that night he blacked out and doesn’t remember what happened. He woke up in his buddy’s car as it was passing back into America. According to him, he never heard from his wife again and since he didn’t have a marriage certificate or anything so he basically forgot about her. I asked him if he was kidding and he kept insisting he wasn’t. I never believed him. Then one week as I was walking across the street into the bar, I saw Bart outside arguing with some Mexican woman. I looked twice because the woman was leading a donkey around by a rope. It had all been true.

There was this party for Eli. He turned six year old. All of us went to enjoy our little cousin’s birthday party. It was at something like an amusement park, but only everything was indoors. They had every kind of fun game that you want to play if you are a little boy. They had one game that Eli loved-tossing a basketball into the hoop to win a prize. He had to have some help and he could barely reach the rim on the basket. Uncle Elija was a big help to him. He even took Eli to play a round of indoor golf. He was glad to see the little miniature course. At least it was one thing that he enjoyed teaching Eli how to play. I couldn’t stay long because I had to baby sit by 7 p.m. I still give everyone an option to bring the children to me or I can go to their houses. And, they have to live in my neighborhood. I have found out I can make money babysitting. It is not as hard as working in a restaurant. It is hard in a way though, because you have to be very, very careful and responsible with other people children.

I am trying to make a decision, so more writing for me. Writing helps me figure things out. I think I have just about decided that helping Dave will be the thing for me to do. I have been thinking, why shouldn’t I do something that makes we feel great and is energizing? Do I want to give up nursing? I have figured out that I can give up nursing. I think working with Dave will be a great idea, and will be great because we will see each other much more often. Dave has been talking to one of his lawyer friends about Houston Chapter 13 and 7 bankruptcy laws. He thinks this may somehow be valuable information as he continues to try and build up his portfolio of converted and sold homes. I think if we both work at his business, we can grow it together. I am very good at paperwork, and accounting since that was may major in college. I used to dabble at doing Uncle’s books when his secretary was off on maternity leave. He thinks I did a great job for a college student. I think I will have to go talk to my boss about replacing me.
