BROKE AND DESTITUTE
When we lost our shirts we decided to take advantage of Mick and Ellen’s offer. They has lost all but two houses in their Louisville Bankruptcy. We were living in Los Angeles at the time, and we had just gotten through a bankruptcy filing ourselves. We were broke and going on destitute. Michelle had lost her job, and my pay was cut to try to keep the business afloat. Basically, after all these years, all we had left was our 401k savings. It was a terrible blow. We wanted to leave it all behind, so when Mick and Ellen invited us to live in Louisville and rent their only remaining home, we jumped on it. My job was heading towards termination, anyway. It was just a matter of time. Whole divisions had been cut, and we were all sweating out the next cuts. I was told in no uncertain terms that we would be next. So why not just make a clean break. Mick seemed to think that he had a friend who could line me up with something. Michelle could find work, we were sure, with her experience. We decided to go before the holidays. That way we would be closer to Chicago and could go visit family and friends.
