STRAPPED FOR CASH
Things were not going so well for Todd and Marie, so we had decided to treat them to a concert in Merriville Bankruptcy had left them really cash strapped. We had come up from Louisville and were staying at a local hotel. I went to the box office and got tickets for an oldies review, 50’s and 60’s singers. I had heard of some of the singers before, but others I didn’t. After I got the tickets I went down the highway to Minor Dunn’s and got a burger and fries. I always liked their food, and even remember when they has some outlets in Chicago. I looked up and started chatting with this guy. He looked familiar, but so do most people to me. He had an English accent, so I asked what brought him to town. He said he was in Merriville for work. I said we were visiting friends. I put things together and asked him if he were in town for the show. It was Saturday afternoon, after all. He said that he was. It turns out he was in one of the bands playing that night. We talked about different places we had traveled to in the world. He had been to many more than I had. When he got up to leave I asked him his name. He winked and said his name was Pete Best. I was never a Beatles fan, so by the time he was out the door, I figured out he was really Ringo Starr. Michelle would kill me for not getting his autograph, so I decided not to mention meeting him.
